ELD Violations Won't Ding CSA Scores Until April

CCJ --- It was announced at an FMCSA public hearing that carriers who are cited for non-compliance with FMCSA’s electronic logging device mandate will not have points recorded against them in the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) scoring system.

This announcement is following an announcement from CVSA and FMCSA in August, that enforcement of ELD-related out-of-service criteria would be delayed to April 1st as a phase-in for ELD implementation.

Between December 18th, 2017 and April 1st, 2018, a driver found with no ELD or compliant AOBRD will be cited for having no log, but the citation will not impact the motor carriers CSA score. The policy originated with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). CVSA brings together highway safety officials from every state and trucking representatives to set enforcement policies and practices, which includes the out-of-service criteria.
