Since 1942, the Iowa Motor Truck Association’s main priority has been ongoing advocacy efforts to represent the needs of Iowa’s trucking industry. Throughout its history, IMTA has been the respected and reliable voice of trucking, however, in fighting our legislative and regulatory battles, too often we have to rely on data, statistics and research provided by government and state agencies. We always seem to be playing defense rather than offense. The Foundation can provide some valuable tools in helping IMTA develop public policy positions that will be favorable to trucking and business in general.
Develop model legislative language for ongoing issues specific to trucking.
Active Role in Judicial Process
Take a more active role in monitoring and participating in the judicial process impacting the industry. Submission of amicus briefs when necessary, regularly submitting comments to proposed rules and having an event stronger voice in our ongoing advocacy efforts.
Ongoing applications for a research grants or working in partnership with a state institutions or universities on a worthwhile research project specific to trucking/transportation in Iowa.
Consistent and meaningful effort targeted at creating a pro-business environment in Iowa. We want to become the leader in promoting pro-business legislation and rules in Iowa.
Secure a staffer to focus specifically on this area and develop an effective plan of action to move this area forward. In the long run this could be one of the most important efforts for IMTA.
