Legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate would require all new commercial trucks to be equipped with speed-limiting devices set to a maximum speed of 65 mph. Read more

Economic data from the goods side of the economy showed some signs of life in May, as growth in retail sales and industrial production exceeded expectations during the month. The Census Bureau reported that total retail sales rose 0.5 percent in May from April’s levels. This beat consensus estimates of a 0.3 percent gain and marks the third consecutive monthly increase in retail spending. Read more


American Trucking Associations’ advanced seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index surged 7.4% in April after decreasing 2% in March. In April, the index equaled 121.8 compared with 113.4 in March. Read more


A bill was just introduced into the U.S. House that would raise per-gallon fuel taxes on gasoline and diesel by five cents a year for five years — and then tie the fuel tax rate to inflation — as a means to raise revenue for surface transportation infrastructure. Read more
